 POST     COMMENTARY

Parent – child relationship is one of the most important  themes of the Muslim etiquette. It is not a unilateral relationship, stressing the role of either party at the expense of the other. Rather,  Islam focuses on both sides, the parents as well as the children. Islam is the religion of balance and justice.  Initially, for a child to be grateful, Islam has urged both paremts to choose the right and suitable spouse who can bring up the coming child well. Also, parents are asked to choose good names for their children. Similarly, parents are required to bring up and educate their children well. Now that Islam has set up a good and a happy family, comes the role of the children concerning their duty towards their parents. A Muslim child is asked to obey, please and honour their parent. Realizing the psychological state of parents, Islam has asked, urged , recommended and advised children to do certain things to please their parents. First, respect and obedience on the part of children makes parents happy. Mercy and care at their old age on the part of  their children satisfy and please the parents. The parent – child relationship is the only natural and real tie humans can enjoy. So Islam is very keen on making it a healthy and successful one.
