Five Essential Steps to Writing

An essay is typically, by definition, a written piece that presents the author’s argument, however this definition is a bit ambiguous, encompassing all of those of a newspaper article, a book, a newspaper pamphlet or an article, or even short stories. Essays are traditionally academic and formal. In Harvard, the first student essay was published in 1844. It was a response by Robert E. Sherwood, an Harvard professor. Writing a written essay generally starts with a description of the intention behind the paper, then the title thesis, the subject or topic to be addressed and the length. A five-paragraph essay is suitable for compositions that contain only some ideas. A good essay outline can assist in overcoming any weaknesses that may be present in a limited number of words. So, a great five-paragraph essay should have a strong central thesis statement and justify the argument throughout the essay.

In the final instance, the introduction is where students will first begin to look at and decide on the direction of the essay. The introduction should be concise and clear. It should also explain the purpose of the assignment, and outline how they will complete it. The writing process begins from there. To outline a basic essay, students must begin with an outline to guide them through the writing process. The outline is the basis for the essay which will eventually become the main point of the writing.
