ALLAH DID CONFER A GREAT FAVOUR

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيمd

و الصلاة و السلام على خير المرسلين و إمام المتقين, أما بعد

The imagery the Qur’an radiates can sometimes reflect unbound joy as opposed to mere watered down translations of the Qur’an, where so much of the meaning is lost! A case in example: In Surah Aali Imraan (3:164) Allah ﷻ Said { لقد منَّ الله على المومنين }

This is roughly translated as, “Allah did confer a great favour upon the Believers”. The word منَّ ‘Mann’ is usually translated as “to favour” or “show grace”. However, a person reading this Ayah cannot appreciate the reason why the Arabic word منَّ is used.

The believers were in such a sorry state and condition before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent to them.

There’s a whole list of words that have been translated as ‘to favour’ in the Qur’an, which actually shows the subtle difference between each individual word – so why use this precise word منَّ?

‘Mann’ منَّ from the word ‘Maneen’ (منِيْن) is literally a thin rope used to tie around an old wooden bucket that is falling to pieces. The word is used when you see someone in a weak, broken and frail state; and therefore you tend to them and show concern and kindness, thereby favouring them because of that.

The believers were in such a sorry state and condition before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent to them. They were like the crumbling old wooden bucket eroding and rotting in all aspects. After seeing their condition deteriorate on Earth, Allah ﷻ showed His Mercy and sent to them His beloved Messenger ﷺ to guide them and stop them from falling apart.

It is indeed powerful knowing the preciseness of the Words Allah uses in the Noble Qur’an, which additionally impacts the heart every time they are heard or read.
